Dogs loyalty Empty Dogs loyalty

Okay so i have a dog called Ben he's a black and white gun dog.
and anyway whenever i go and take him for a walk i dont use the leash cause he never goes to far away from me it's like two meters away from me all the time.
It's like some kind of invisible barrier is up around me so he cant get to far away from me!
i was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or something else equally weird.
